# Manage User Groups

Create, edit and delete user groups, add members and connected roles, and how groups affect permissions and sharing.

A user group bundles users, for example a department or a team. Roles connected to a group apply to all its members, and items can be shared with a group. Assigning permissions through groups keeps them easy to maintain: a change to the group applies to everyone in it. The ideas behind users, groups and roles are explained in [Access Management at Noreja](https://docs.noreja.com/en/article/access-management).

> **Permissions:** Customer admins only.

### Open the User Groups

Open **Settings** (the gear icon) and choose **User groups** under **Authorizations**. The list shows each group's **Name**, **Description** and **User count**. The eye icon opens a group for reading, the pencil for editing. Only Customer admins can manage user groups.

### Create or Edit a Group

- Click **Add group**, or the pencil of an existing group.
- Enter a **Name**, unique within your company, and optionally a **Description**.
- Under **Assigned users**, tick the members. Search by name; **Select all** ticks all users on the current page.
- Under **Connected roles**, tick the roles the members should get. The permission overview below shows what they add up to. How roles are set up is described in [Create and Edit Roles](https://docs.noreja.com/en/article/create-and-edit-roles).
- Click **Save**.

Changes apply to the members right away. Members can also be added in the user's page (**Assigned user groups**), and roles in the role (**Assigned groups**).

Once a group exists, its page also has **Context access**: which company, activity and perspective knowledge the group may use with Minerva. See [Context Hub: Knowledge for Minerva](https://docs.noreja.com/en/article/contextualizing-knowledge-for-minerva-ai).

### How Groups Affect Permissions

- Members get all permissions of the group's roles in addition to their own roles. Permissions only add up; a group never takes a permission away.
- Analyzer tabs, dashboards, perspectives, entities, agents, skills, prompts and workspaces can be shared with a group. New members see these items too. See [Share Your Work with Colleagues](https://docs.noreja.com/en/article/share-your-work-with-colleagues).

### Delete a Group

- First remove all **Connected roles** from the group and save.
- Click the red bin in the group's row and confirm: *Deleting the group cannot be undone.*

The members aren't deleted. When you remove the group's roles and shares, members lose what they had only through the group. A group that still has roles stays in the list without a message, so remove its roles first. If it still doesn't disappear, items or knowledge may be shared with it; remove those shares too.
